Approach & Modalities

A Grounded, Trauma-Informed Space for Healing

Healing takes courage, and the right support. At Ember & Root Therapy, the foundation of every session is safety, trust, and understanding. Our approach is guided by trauma-informed principles, recognizing that each person’s history shapes how they experience the world. Together, we move at your pace, building the safety needed to explore painful experiences while supporting your natural capacity for growth and repair.

Honouring Your Story

Every story begins somewhere, sometimes in places of loss, disconnection, or survival. Therapy offers a space to trace those roots with gentleness and curiosity, without judgement or pressure. By understanding how early experiences have shaped your patterns of connection and protection, we can nurture new ways of relating — to yourself and to others.

Trauma-Informed, Client-Centered Care

We create a safe, trusting environment honouring your unique story, fostering healing and deep understanding. Together, we move at your pace, building the safety needed to explore painful experiences while supporting your natural capacity for growth and repair.

Evidence-Based Therapeutic Modalities

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) or Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for processing trauma and restoring a sense of safety.
  • Attachment and family systems theory, to explore how relationships shape emotions and coping patterns.
  • Mindfulness and somatic awareness, to help reconnect with the body’s wisdom and signals.
  • Solution-focused and strengths-based techniques, empowering you to recognize resilience already present within you.

Why “Ember & Root”?

The name Ember & Root reflects what it means to heal after the fire; to acknowledge what has been changed, and to find growth in what remains. The ember represents the lasting marks of experience, the heat and memory left behind by pain and survival. The root represents what continues to reach for life beneath the surface, your capacity for resilience, connection, and renewal. As residents of the Okanagan Valley, we understand this regrowth after fire in an unparalleled way.

Together, they speak to the truth that healing doesn’t erase the fire, it grows from it.

Who I Work With

I work with children, youth, adults, and families navigating the lasting effects of stress and trauma. This might be from early experiences, complex relationships, or difficult life transitions.

Many of my clients seek support for:

  • Childhood or developmental trauma
  • Intergenerational and attachment wounds
  • Anxiety, depression, or emotional overwhelm
  • Parenting and family relationship challenges
  • Personal and work-related stress
  • Recovery from patterns of survival or burnout

While every client’s story is unique, a common thread is the desire to heal from what’s been carried for too long and to create new patterns of safety, connection, and possibility.

Therapy with me is collaborative. I hold space for your story with warmth, curiosity, and respect, helping you make sense of your experiences and reconnect with the strengths that have always been there.

What to Expect in Therapy

Your therapy experience should feel safe, steady, and personalised.

In our first sessions, we’ll focus on understanding goals and building a sense of safety and trust. This is the foundation for deeper healing.

Next, sessions may include gentle exploration of memories, emotions, and patterns, supported by strategies that build regulation and self-awareness.

Some sessions might involve reflection or dialogue. Others may draw on mindfulness, EMDR, or creative techniques to access the body’s natural healing systems. We’ll move at your pace, ensuring that you feel grounded and supported.

Above all, you can expect compassion, collaboration, and a focus on your capacity to grow. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting what happened, it means learning how to grow in the space it left behind.

When You’re Ready

Healing begins in the moments you decide to turn toward yourself with compassion. Whether you’re seeking understanding, relief, or connection, therapy offers a space to begin again from where you are, with what you have.

At Ember & Root Therapy, you don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. You only have to take the first step.
